Should I Upgrade My CPU After Getting an RTX 5080?

Hey everyone! So after finally getting a mortgage with my wife, I splurged a bit and ordered an RTX 5080 along with a 4K OLED monitor. Now I'm stuck trying to figure out what to do about upgrading the rest of my system. Right now, I've got a Ryzen 5 5600X, a GTX 1080, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and an AM4 motherboard.

Here are my options:
1. Just keep my current setup. I know there will be some bottlenecks, but I'm tempted to see how the new GPU performs even with the older CPU. I'm a bit worried it might ruin the initial experience, though.
2. Upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D. It's a relatively affordable upgrade, but I'm not sure if it's the best match for the 5080.
3. Go all-out and upgrade to AM5 with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. It's definitely more expensive, but could provide the best performance.

My budget is tight, but I'm willing to stretch it a bit if it means a better experience with the new GPU. What do you all think I should do?

Why not go all out? But is it really the best time to upgrade after just getting a mortgage? I recently went for a full upgrade myself, moving from a 5600X to a 9800X3D. I tried the 5080 with my old setup first, and while it worked, there's something special about a new build! You could always try the new GPU now and do a full upgrade later if it feels right.

That makes sense! A 5070Ti could be a more budget-friendly choice right now too, allowing some room in the budget for a CPU, RAM, and mobo upgrade later!

I think I might try it out first too. My 5600X seems decent enough, and it could be a good way to ease into the upgrade without committing to everything at once!

I’d say just stick with your current setup for now. The Ryzen 5 5600X can still handle most games just fine, usually averaging 80fps. Sure, there might be some bottlenecks, but turning down some settings or using upscaling can keep your experience smooth at 4K with the RTX 5080. There's no rush to upgrade just to chase marginal improvements!

Totally! It’s good to know the 5600X still holds up. I get worried about bottlenecks since everyone keeps mentioning them, but it seems like playing around with settings can keep things enjoyable. Thanks for the reassurance!
