Upgrading from AM4 to AM5: Which CPU Is Best for Gaming, Streaming, and Recording?

Hey everyone! My AM4 motherboard is starting to fail, so I'm considering an upgrade to AM5. I use my setup primarily for gaming, streaming, and recording all at once, and I plan to get into video editing as well. Here's what I've got right now:

**Main PC:**
- Ryzen 9 5900X
- RX 6900 XT
- ASRock X470 Taichi
- 32GB DDR4
- NZXT H9 Flow (2023)
- Arctic cooling AIO 360 liquid freezer 3 rgb

**Second PC:**
- Ryzen 5 5600X
- RX 580
- Gigabyte B550 Gaming X V2
- 16GB DDR4
- Arctic cooling AIO 360 liquid freezer 3 black

I've narrowed my upgrade options down to two paths:

**Option 1 (Budget-friendly):**
- Ryzen 9 9800X3D
- ASRock X870E Nova ATX
- 64GB DDR5 Kingston Fury Beast RGB CL30 6000MHz

**Option 2 (On the pricier side):**
- Ryzen 9 9950X3D
- ASRock X870E Taichi EATX
- 64GB G.SKILL CL30 6000MHz

I want to know how these new CPUs would perform given my needs, especially compared to my current Ryzen 5900X when juggling gaming, streaming, and recording. Another thought I had was to set up a dual-PC setup by moving my existing 5900X to the second PC and using a capture card, dedicating my main rig purely to gaming. What's the best approach for a future-proof setup that balances performance and workload? Thanks!

If you need the upgrade now, go for the 9950X3D! The extra X3D cores will do wonders for your multitasking, especially with streaming and gaming at the same time. Regarding motherboards, I get the hesitation about MSI; there's a lot of mixed experiences out there. Gigabyte does make solid boards! Just make sure to check reviews specific to the model you're considering to avoid any surprises. As for the dual-PC setup, while it can offload some tasks, it also adds more potential points of failure. If you're comfortable with one powerful build, that might be your best bet for simplicity and performance!

Absolutely! With all the challenges of running two rigs, a single AM5 setup might save you a lot of hassle while still providing the power you need!

I'd be cautious with ASRock motherboards for the 9000 series X3D CPUs, I've seen a lot of users reporting issues like burnt CPUs over on their forums. You might not need all the features of the X870E Taichi. A mid-range board like the MSI B850 Tomahawk could be a solid choice without breaking the bank. As for the CPU, I'd recommend the Ryzen 9 9950X3D for your streaming and gaming needs—its core configuration really suits multitasking well.
Also, before considering the dual-PC setup, think about the added complexity and energy costs. It might be more efficient to stick with one powerful build!

I didn't know that about ASRock! I've been looking at options too, so thanks for the heads up. What do you think about Gigabyte boards? Any experience with them?
