Hey everyone! I'm just starting out in programming and really want to improve my skills, but I don't have much time for free projects. I'm considering reaching out to startups that primarily work with APIs and offering to create simple demo products using their APIs. I've got some experience from a short bootcamp years ago, doing web scraping scripts, and I recently built a basic SaaS product.
My idea is that these API startups might appreciate having more examples to showcase their product and attract more users. Since I wouldn't be working directly on their main product, I wouldn't slow things down, and I believe I could produce work faster with fewer things to learn. Has anyone else tried this approach? What was your experience like on either side?

From my experience developing APIs, I've often had more than enough testing examples on hand. Also, with documentation tools like Swagger, experienced developers can easily access whatever examples they need. So hiring someone who’s not already versed with the API could introduce unnecessary costs for the startup.
I'm not so sure this would work out. Most companies have plenty of test code and examples already, so I doubt they'd want to pay someone for this. Plus, you'd need to spend time learning their specific API before you could even start, which might end up being more costly than just having one of their own developers do it.
