Can I Use a 12-Pin Connector with My 8-Pin GPU?

I recently returned my RTX 4090 for an RMA and I'm currently using a temporary 1660 Super, which requires an 8-pin connector. Unfortunately, my power supply only has a 12-pin connector. Is there any way to adapt the 12-pin connector to work as an 8-pin for my GPU? Or should I just give up trying to make this work? I've searched a lot, but all I find are ways to convert two 8-pins to a 12-pin.

First off, what power supply do you have? Knowing the exact model could help. It's pretty uncommon to have a power supply that only has a 12-pin with zero PCIe cables available. Usually, these PSUs come with standard cables. If you’re looking for an adapter, most of what I see out there converts from an 8-pin to a 12-pin, not the other way around. You might want to double-check your PSU again!

Yeah, I feel you on that! I found it odd too. Most good PSUs come with all necessary cables, but maybe yours is a special model?

Honestly, if you can't find an adapter, your best bet might be to get a new power supply or another graphics card that fits with the connectors you have. Making those connections work could be more hassle than it's worth, and safety should come first!

Thanks for the advice! I was thinking about that too, but I really want to avoid extra expenses right now.
