I've got a 2009 MacBook that I no longer need and I'm thinking about experimenting with Linux for the first time. I'm not a programmer by any means, but I'm reasonably tech-savvy since I've built my own desktop. I just want to poke around and explore, so I'm wondering if the latest version of Ubuntu will work on my MacBook, or if I'd be better off with a different distribution?

Considering your MacBook has a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 2GB of RAM, standard Ubuntu likely won't perform well. I'd suggest going for a lighter option, like Linux Mint Xfce. It's user-friendly and perfect for beginners!
I wouldn't recommend Ubuntu for that MacBook. It's better to try a lightweight distro instead, like Antix or Q40 OS. They'll run much smoother on your old hardware.

Thanks for the tip! I actually heard that this model can support 8GB of RAM, even though Apple officially says 4GB. Might give Mint a shot!
