Hey everyone! I recently got a new laptop and I'm curious about the best way to charge it to maximize battery life. Should I be following a charging pattern similar to phones, like charging from 20% to 80%? Or is it better to keep it plugged in all the time? What do you all recommend?

I've had the best results by keeping my laptop in the 50%-80% charge range. I don’t know if that applies to all types of batteries, but it seems to help prolong the lifespan for mine.

A great way to extend battery life is to remove the battery (if you easily can) and just keep the laptop plugged in. Otherwise, charging up to 80% is a good rule of thumb.

Honestly, I keep my laptop plugged in most of the time and I've seen better battery longevity that way. Running it down and recharging daily can wear it out faster. My Dell Latitude from 2017 is still doing fine—about 6 hours when I need it to, even though the rest of the machine is falling apart. If your laptop has BIOS settings to limit the battery charge, you might want to adjust that to around 80% for even better battery health, but some companies lock those options down.

I don’t stress too much about it since my laptop is company-owned. If the battery fails, I just get a replacement. I usually have it connected to a screen via USB-C anyway, so it charges automatically. No worries for me!

In my experience, you should avoid keeping your laptop plugged in constantly. It can make the battery work harder over time. I typically charge mine while I'm using it or let it reach 100% and then unplug it. You could also check your laptop's manual or monitor its charging habits to get a better idea of what works best for you.
