Hey everyone! I have a final interview coming up for an IT Support Supervisor position, and I made the mistake of asking about the dress code. They said it's a suit and dress shirt, with a tie if I have one. I've never worn a suit in my life and don't own one. Since the interview is on Monday morning, I'm worried I won't find one that fits me well since I'm on the larger side. Plus, do I really want to spend $500-$700 on a suit that I might only wear once? I'm considering going with dress slacks, a button-down shirt, and maybe a tie - basically a suit minus the jacket. I've got nice pants, but I'd still need to get a button-down that needs to be tucked. Is this overkill for an interview that doesn't even pay over $100k? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

You don't need to break the bank! You can find decent options at thrift stores or places like Goodwill. They often have suits and you might even find one that fits well without needing much tailoring. Just go for a nice pair of slacks, a dress shirt, and a dark tie. That's a solid look for an interview.
Honestly, if you want the job, it’s best to follow their suggestion for a suit. They clearly have a standard for what they expect you to wear during the interview. Showing that you respect their dress code could help you make a good impression!
Check out second-hand shops, they usually have affordable options. You might have to look around a bit for a good fit, but you can definitely find something suitable that'll work for your interview.
If you really feel that a full suit isn’t necessary for the role you’re applying for, a nice pair of slacks and a dress shirt could work too. Just make sure it’s more than just jeans and a t-shirt; aim for something that looks polished. But, having a suit for the future is always smart!
You might consider renting a suit if you're really pressed for time. It’s a good option if you don’t plan on using it frequently. Also, for a suit that you'll keep, it's useful to have at least one in your wardrobe for future events.
Renting is a great idea, especially for a one-off occasion. Plus, you get to wear a nice suit without the hefty price!
Totally agree! If they’re giving you guidance, it might be worth following it to show you're serious about the opportunity.
