What are the Best Tools for Wiping an SSD/NVMe in Windows?

I'm looking for a way to securely wipe an SSD or NVMe drive on a Windows laptop before returning it, but I don't want to create a dedicated setup just for this. I've noticed that many tools out there require booting from an ISO, which isn't ideal for my occasional needs. Can anyone recommend a good tool or method for this?

A simple and effective solution would be to directly use the secure erase feature available in your BIOS. It’s straightforward and doesn’t require extra tools.

Another option is to plug your SSD into another computer if you can. Run a full format and then encrypt it with BitLocker, followed by another format. If you're booting from the SSD, just remove any unnecessary partitions and encrypt the whole drive as a precaution.

Honestly, the best approach might be to avoid direct wiping altogether. Instead, consider encrypting your drive with BitLocker, and then either reset the TPM or simply lose the random password. If you're really cautious, booting into a live Linux system and encrypting it with LUKS multiple times can add extra security.

If you're using Dell laptops, check the BIOS settings—the wipe feature is built right in! This could save you from needing additional software.
