Is Upgrading from a 3060 to a 5060 Worth It?

I've been considering if now is the right time to upgrade my 3060 to a 5060, especially since the prices for the 5060 have dropped significantly. Last year, I asked about moving from a 3060 to a 4060 and decided against it based on the feedback I received. Now, with the 5060 on sale, I'm curious about whether it would really be an upgrade or not. What do you think?

I think you should seriously consider the 9060 XT 16GB. It generally outperforms the 5060 for a similar price, as long as you're okay switching to AMD. Otherwise, the 5060 Ti with 16GB could keep you relevant longer without much extra cost.

Honestly, an upgrade from the 3060 to the regular 5060 isn't huge. You're looking at around a 44% performance increase, which isn't bad, but it might not feel significant unless you're wanting 60% or more. If it’s between a 5060 and something like the 9060 XT, I’d go with the latter for better performance and 16GB of VRAM.

If you're looking at the 5060 Ti with 16GB, that could be a solid upgrade. But keep in mind, the regular 5060 has only 8GB VRAM, which some folks worry about. Just consider what games you're playing and whether they tend to need more VRAM.

I think the 8GB might hold you back in more demanding games. I mean, I've managed fine with less VRAM, but it really depends on what you're playing.

I was looking at a 5060 Ti too, but I'm only going to pull the trigger if I can snag it for less than £350.

Keep in mind you're dropping from 12GB VRAM to 8GB if you go with the 5060. In most cases, it won’t underperform too severely against the 3060, but for future-proofing, you might want to look at cards with 12GB or more.

Yeah, VRAM does matter for newer games. It just depends on what titles you usually play.

I've seen a decent bump in FPS, especially in games like Cyberpunk when switching to the 5060. But honestly, it might not be worth it unless you get a great deal. If you're not open to AMD but want more VRAM, I’d suggest waiting for the right Ti version to pop up.

Exactly. If I can find a 5060 Ti for under £350 too, I might consider it.
