My ASUS laptop suddenly became super slow—any ideas on what to check?

Hey everyone, I'm hoping for some assistance here. I've got an ASUS Gaming laptop that has been relying on integrated graphics ever since the dedicated GPU failed and had to be disconnected. Until today, it was functioning decently, allowing me to play games, surf the web, and watch videos without issues. However, out of the blue, my laptop has started lagging terribly. Everything takes ages to load, from booting up to simply opening a folder in Explorer, which can take several seconds.

I've already run through a list of potential issues: there's plenty of space on my SSD (about 25% free), both RAM and CPU usage are low, and I don't see any rogue processes running. My peripherals, including my USB mouse and external hard drives, are functioning perfectly, and CheckDisk didn't show any errors. However, CrystalDisk is giving me a yellow caution warning but claims my hard drive space is fine. I didn't have any system crashes, and the antivirus cleaned up alright.

I even tried a system restore, but it got stuck initializing for what felt like forever. It's frustrating because I need this laptop for work, and I can't afford a new one right now. Any suggestions on what I can do? Thanks!

Could you share a screenshot of the CrystalDisk info? It might give us more insight into what's happening with your hard drive, especially since that caution flag came up.

First, you might want to examine the dump files from your system to see if there are any crash logs that could help diagnose the issue. If you can access Windows normally or in Safe Mode, check the C:WindowsMinidump directory for any dump files. If you find some, zip them up and upload them to a file-sharing site so others can take a look. Make sure you've got multiple files if possible for a thorough analysis!

I checked, but the folder is empty.

Make sure to check the temperatures inside your laptop. Sometimes overheating can cause slowdowns. Ensure that the fan is functioning properly and that there's no dust blocking the heatsink. If it’s been cleaned recently and temps are good (like your hard drive being at 40 degrees), then you're likely on the right track!

Thanks for the tip! The fan is working and I cleaned it out just recently. Temperatures seem normal.
