I'm fed up with Windows and keen to switch over to Linux, especially Ubuntu, which seems to be user-friendly for beginners. I aim to become a competent user, comfortable with terminal commands, program installations, and system manipulation without causing too much chaos. What's the actual learning curve like for mastering Ubuntu?

I started using Ubuntu after getting frustrated with Windows 11. It wasn't hard to get up and running, and while the advanced stuff took some getting used to, the extensive online help makes everything doable. You’ll use the terminal occasionally, but it's approachable!
The learning curve is much more manageable than you might think! With a bit of persistence, you'll be fine. Just dive in, and you’ll pick things up quickly!
Thanks for the encouragement!
If you're somewhat tech-savvy, it shouldn’t be difficult at all. Plus, Google is your friend when it comes to finding basic commands. Most of the tasks are done through the GUI, which makes it easy for beginners!
Good to hear! I usually do okay with tech but was just unsure about moving to a new OS.
As someone who's just transitioned from Windows, I found Ubuntu to be really user-friendly. I did have a friend help me set up the bootable USB for Ubuntu 24.04, and ever since, I've been a fan!
Fantastic! Knowing there are others like me who are finding it easy is encouraging.
Getting started with Ubuntu is pretty simple. Understanding the differences between Windows and Linux can take a bit longer though. If you want a familiar interface, you might consider trying Mint instead - it's based on Ubuntu but feels more like Windows.
Thanks! I'm still torn between Mint and Ubuntu, but Mint's interface sounds easier.
What made you choose Ubuntu over Mint, for a more Windows-like experience?
