Experiencing Visual Artifacts with My New GPU—What Should I Do?

Hey everyone! I recently built a PC with a Ryzen 5600x, 16 GB of RAM, and an MSI A550BN 550W power supply. I was using an old Geforce G210 to navigate the BIOS, but I just got my new 9060 XT and swapped it in. However, instead of seeing the BIOS screen, I'm getting visual artifacts. I did plug in the 8-pin PCIe power, but it caused an error. After resetting the CMOS, I was able to get to the manufacturer's BIOS screen, but I'm still seeing artifacts afterward. Am I possibly mismanaging the power, or could the GPU be faulty? Here's a (https://youtube.com/shorts/TREDe_Ch7jA?feature=share) of the issue.

It sounds like you might be dealing with power supply issues. Those MSI A550BN power supplies are known to cause problems. I had one that had a faulty molex connection that shorted my system. I’d suggest testing with a different power supply if you can, just to rule that out. Sometimes the PCIe cable might not be delivering enough power, which could be leading to these artifacts, or it could indeed be a faulty GPU.

I appreciate the insight! I tested the cable with my old GPU and it worked fine, so I thought it should be okay. But I'll keep the power supply in mind.

Yeah, even if it's new, that PSU could still have issues. Just make sure all your connections are solid, though.

Make sure you're using the correct 6+2 pin connectors for your GPU. Sometimes folks mix up cables, especially if you have a set with multiple connectors. Also, double-check your PSU ratings; even if it's tier C, some units from that tier are not very reliable when pushed to their limits.

Yeah, it’s a good idea to look into your PSU's specifications. If possible, try to get your hands on a higher tier power supply just for testing.

Thanks for the tip! I used both 6+2 pins, and they seemed alright. Maybe I need to pay closer attention to the rated output.
