I've recently started playing newer games again and I'm not happy with my computer's performance. I'm curious about upgrading to a Ryzen 5700X3D or 5800X3D. Would either of these options significantly improve my gaming experience? Also, do I need to think about upgrading my GPU, RAM, or cooling as well, or can I hold off on those until the AM6 release? I primarily game at 1440p.
Here's my current setup:
- GPU: RTX 2080 Gaming X Trio
- Motherboard: Asus B450 Plus Gaming
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 3000
- CPU: Ryzen 5 2600X

Any modern AM4 upgrade will help, but aim for a CPU with at least 32MB of L3 cache for better performance. If you want stable 60 FPS at higher settings, consider investing more in your setup since that would definitely help.
The 5700X3D will definitely provide a huge performance boost, but be ready to spend, as they can be quite pricey right now!
I'd suggest not overspending on the X3D right now. If you're patient, you might as well wait for AM5 or save up for a better GPU. A regular 5700X could give you more cores and better clock speeds for less than $250, which is a better investment given your 1440p gaming setup!
