I've had this PC for several years, which I bought from a friend when he upgraded to a micro build. It's been good for gaming, but I've started to notice some performance issues, especially while playing Starfield. My CPU seems to be bottlenecking, causing lag every few minutes. The only upgrade I've done is replacing the graphics card with a new one he sold me. I have limited knowledge about compatibility and upgrades. Here's my current setup:
- Motherboard: ASUS Z170-AR
- CPU: Intel Core I5-6400
- GPU: RTX 3050
- RAM: Kingston Fury 32GB (2x16GB)
- PSU: ThermalTake Litepower 650kw
- Wifi: Xonar WiFi Card
I think I need to upgrade my CPU, but I'm unsure if there's anything else I should consider replacing while I'm at it. I heard that i7 processors aren't compatible with my motherboard, but I've found some i7/motherboard bundles available. Is that worth it? My budget is 600 AUD for CPU, cooler, and maybe a new motherboard, and I'm located in Australia.

You can actually fit an i7 on your motherboard, but it will only be a 6th or 7th generation chip, which isn't really a great upgrade. If you're thinking about upgrading, you might want to get a new CPU, motherboard, and potentially RAM as well. Just remember, once you upgrade your CPU, your GPU might become the weak link, which would mean considering a new PSU too. Don't forget to mention your location and budget in your posts for more tailored advice!
This is a great chance to boost your knowledge and performance! Start by looking into current platforms that suit your gaming needs and budget. Consider both AMD and Intel options for your upgrades.

Thanks for the tip! I've just added my budget and location - I'm specifically looking to spend around 600 AUD for the CPU, cooling, and potential motherboard.
