Why Can’t My Laptop Find My Home Wi-Fi?

I recently inherited my grandma's old Windows 10 laptop, but I'm running into a strange issue with the Wi-Fi driver. The laptop can detect her Wi-Fi network and even my neighbor's Arlo camera, but it just won't see my family's Wi-Fi network at all. I've tried entering the Wi-Fi details manually, but that hasn't worked either. Interestingly, the Bluetooth feature works fine as it connects to my phone. Unfortunately, I can't use a hotspot since my family plan doesn't allow it. Just to give you a bit more info, the laptop has an Intel Core i3-5015U processor, 6GB of DDR3 RAM, and an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 Wi-Fi card. I also tried playing Half-Life 2 on it, but that didn't go well either!

Firstly, you might want to check if your Wi-Fi card supports the technology your router uses, like Wi-Fi 6. Sometimes older cards can't detect newer network types. It’s easy to check, just look up your Wi-Fi card model online and see what it supports.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll look up my Wi-Fi card model and see what I can find!

I totally get it! If you’re new to this, it can be tricky. I actually just figured out that my Wi-Fi card doesn’t support Wi-Fi 6 either, only Wi-Fi 5 at max!
