I'm thinking about upgrading my old motherboard and CPU setup, specifically swapping out my Asus Prime z270-P and i7-7700k for a Gigabyte X870E Aorus Pro paired with a Ryzen 5 9600x. I'm planning to stick with my Gainward Phoenix GTX 1080 for now until I can afford a newer GPU. My current power supply is the Corsair CX750M. While it seems sufficient based on specs, I'm worried about potential power spikes. Will my new motherboard handle those?

The CX750M should do the trick. Power spikes are less of a concern now compared to what they used to be with older GPUs like the RTX 3000. Even so, it's good practice to consider your specific setup. If you're upgrading your GPU later, you might want to keep an eye on the PSU; it could handle lower to mid-range cards well. But I'm curious why you picked an x870 motherboard for a 9600x. It might've been better to grab a cheaper board and put the savings towards a better PSU or even a higher-tier CPU down the line.
Your new CPU only pulls about 65 watts, and most of the load will come from your GPU, so you should be fine with the CX750M. It should handle everything without any issue!
Thanks for the reassurance! 🙂
I plan to upgrade my PSU when I get a new GPU. I chose the x870 motherboard because I need a solid long-term option. My i7 is pretty slow for my needs now, and while the 9600x is all I can afford at the moment, I have my eye on higher-end options like the 9950x for future upgrades. Thanks for your input!
