Is $400 Too Much for a Custom PC Build?

I'm thinking about getting a custom-built PC featuring a 5090 GPU and expected the assembly cost to be between $200 and $300, but my local shop quoted me $400. Is this the norm these days? I understand that a professional will bring experience and handle the Windows installation, but that price seems a bit steep, right? After getting mixed feedback, I'm contemplating whether to wait it out or attempt to build it myself. Any thoughts?

The setup can take quite a bit longer for high-end builds because of intricate cabling and detail work, so that $400 price tag might factor that in. Just assembling a basic PC can be quick, but serious builds often take a while due to things like cable management. $400 does sound steep, but the time and expertise definitely have a price.

If there's custom hardline tubing or complex cooling involved, then yeah, $400 might actually be fair.

Honestly, if you're spending on high-end components like a 5090, an extra $100 for assembly isn't unreasonable. It really depends on your location too. $400 could actually include more than just assembly, which isn't such a bad deal if you think about it.
