Can I Keep My Power Cables When Upgrading to a 1000W PSU?

I'm currently using an MSI MAG A750GL PSU, which is ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 compatible. I'm planning to upgrade to the MSI MAG A1000GL PSU. Do I need to replace my existing power cables, or can I just swap out the power supply? I recently upgraded my GPU from a 7900xt to a 5080 and haven't faced any issues with the 750W PSU. However, I want to ensure safety by moving to a 1000W unit. I spoke to a live agent and they mentioned that it's best to use the cables that come with the new PSU to avoid any risks.

It's a good idea to check with the manufacturer directly. Sometimes PSUs in the same family are made by different OEMs, which could mean different cable compatibility. You really don't want to risk possible damage to your expensive components!

Will email them just to see what the deal is.

I wouldn't recommend using the old cables. Each PSU can have different pinouts, even within the same model line. To be safe, just use the new cables with the 1000W PSU. You could also get a watt meter for about $20 to see how much power you're really drawing. It might not be hitting 500W even under load, making the upgrade to 1000W possibly unnecessary.

That seems like a great idea!

Changing the PSU cables can be such a hassle, but given you’ve dropped a lot on your new GPU and the PSU, I'd bite the bullet and swap them out for safety. You may avoid warranty headache later if something goes wrong!

Definitely reach out to MSI and confirm. Even if it's tempting to save some hassle, if the pins are different, your gear could get fried. It's better to be safe than sorry.

In my experience, it's complex to mix cables from different PSUs. I would stick to the cables that came with your new unit to avoid burning out something important.
