My PC Freezes After a Few Hours – What’s Going On?

I've been having this super frustrating issue with my PC lately. I'm using a Ryzen 5 7600x, and since my GPU hasn't arrived yet, I'm relying on the iGPU. Everything seems to go smoothly for a while, but after using it for a few hours, the whole system freezes, and I have to reboot. It gets especially weird when I'm just watching YouTube or doing light tasks. At times, Windows runs at a crawl, like 1 fps! Interestingly, if I minimize or close the Chrome tab, everything goes back to normal. I've tried opening other browsers, and they behave the same way. Occasionally, Discord seems to trigger this too. I did get a GPU driver error once, but after reinstalling the drivers, that stopped. I've run Memtest on my RAM, checked for bent CPU pins, and my CPU temps are fine—40-50 degrees even under load. My BIOS is updated too. I'm at a loss for what's causing this!

Have you checked your thermals? Sometimes, even if they seem fine, the iGPU can get overloaded, especially when running Chrome or Discord with hardware acceleration. A solid fix can be reinstalling the iGPU drivers, turning off hardware acceleration in your apps, and switching to High Performance mode. Also, try to limit the number of heavy applications you run simultaneously until your GPU arrives. That might help with the freezing issue!

It really sounds like your iGPU is struggling under the load. Given that Ryzen chips are prone to this kind of problem when using Chrome or Discord, it’s worth reinstalling the iGPU drivers and disabling hardware acceleration. This should help manage the load better while you wait for your GPU to come in.
