Is Xcode Running Slow for You Too?

Hey everyone! I'm just starting my iOS development elective and wanted to set things up in advance to get familiar with Xcode. I added a basic button that shows an alert when clicked, but running the simulator has been painfully slow. I've been waiting for over 15 minutes now! I'm using a MacBook Air with the latest Sonoma and Xcode 16.2. I've already tried reinstalling Xcode and switching simulators, but it just shouldn't be this slow. Any suggestions? I'm really new to all of this, and if I can't get Xcode to work, I might not be able to take this class!

I feel you! I have an Intel iMac from 2019, and it's incredibly slow too. The IDE can take about five minutes to load, and the simulator takes forever, sometimes over 20 minutes to start. Once it's up, it’s usually okay, but building and previewing can be a total gamble depending on your project size. The updates are the worst—they can take ages!
