Struggling to Find IT Jobs: Is It the Market or My Resume?

Hey everyone, I've recently made a shift from helpdesk to looking for roles in system administration and security analysis. I have 3 years of helpdesk experience and 4 years as an IT specialist (25b) in the Army Reserves, plus I hold a BS in computer science with a focus on cybersecurity. My certifications include A+, Network+, Security+, CySA+, PenTest+, Linux Essentials, and CCSP, along with a few others that aren't as noteworthy. I've been applying to various DoD and civilian positions, but after months of searching, I haven't received a single call back. I'm wondering if I'm genuinely not qualified for these types of roles, if my resume needs work, or if the job market is just tough right now.

Honestly, the IT job market is pretty rough right now. Companies are tightening their budgets, and there's a huge oversupply of candidates since so many people transitioned into IT. Plus, with the shift to cloud services, less staff is needed. I've known folks with decades of experience who are still struggling to find jobs. It's tough out there!

Wow, I didn't realize it was that bad! How does one even get into managed service providers if they seem so elusive?

I've been on the job hunt too, and it can feel relentless. I interviewed a lot last year, went through dozens of initial interviews and around 12 final rounds, but ended up with no offers. I did get one from a startup with zero benefits, but after landing a new job a few months ago thanks to a recruiter on LinkedIn, I realized sometimes luck plays a role. Keep improving your skills and networking—the market is rough, but persistence pays off!

That sounds frustrating! It's good to hear there's still hope out there.

Yes, it's a tough situation for many, and it feels like securing a job is becoming increasingly harder. It's definitely worth looking into how you can stand out, but the market does play a big role in your search.
