Is My 600W PSU Enough for an Upcoming GPU Upgrade?

I'm currently running a basic setup with an X99 motherboard, a Xeon E5 2640 V4 CPU, an RX 550 GPU, and an MSI A600DN 600W power supply. I'm planning to upgrade to an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB graphics card next month, even though I realize my CPU won't fully utilize it. I'm concerned whether my current 600W power supply will handle the increased demand, especially since I also have 4 fans and an AIO cooler in a large case that has good airflow.

I'd recommend plugging your components into PC Part Picker to get a better idea of the total wattage needed. Based on your specs, you might only be drawing around 400W maximum, which makes a 600W supply look good on paper. However, the age of your PSU matters, so if it's older or feels unreliable, it's better to upgrade before making the GPU switch! A solid gold-rated supply would be wise for future upgrades too.

Your current 600W PSU should be adequate for now, but there's a catch. If it's rated as an unreliable unit, it could put your system at risk, especially with a more powerful GPU. If it’s relatively new (like only 2 months old), that helps, but I still suggest checking out a gold-rated unit for better stability and future-proofing your build. Also, consider the 9060XT 16GB, as it might give you good performance for your current CPU without stretching your budget too much.

It seems like there's some confusion about your power supply model. If you really have the A600DN, which is 80+ White rated at 600W, I would definitely recommend upgrading it. While 600W might technically suffice, it’s not a reliable choice for a power-hungry GPU like the RTX 5060 Ti. For confidence in your setup, think about getting a higher-rated PSU like the Montech CENTURY II 850W—it’s a solid option that won’t break the bank!
