Hey everyone! I'm planning to swap out my motherboard and RAM, which means I'll also need to change my CPU. Currently, I'm using an RTX 5070 with a 1080p monitor. I've been advised to go for the Ryzen 7 9700X, but I'm curious about how it really stacks up against my current Ryzen 7 5800X in terms of gaming and overall performance. The 9700X is priced at $340 around my area, while options like the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and 9800X3D are more expensive at $470 and $580 respectively. Am I making a poor choice with this upgrade, or does it offer good value for performance and gaming improvements? Thanks for any insights!

Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend it. Your current setup is already solid and can manage most games perfectly fine right now. I’d suggest holding off and maybe consider an x3D variant or even upgrading the GPU for a more significant boost in performance.
At 1080p, you might notice the upgrade more than if you were gaming at 1440p or 4k. But if you’re satisfied with your current performance and frame rates, the difference might not justify the cost. You might even benefit more from upgrading to a 1440p monitor for better visual quality instead!
Thanks! What if I consider going for the Ryzen 7 9800X3D? Would that make a bigger difference?

Thanks for your input! Any specific x3D you think would be best?
