I'm having trouble with my 2TB Crucial X8 external SSD disconnecting frequently, and I'm not sure if it's the cable or the connection to my PC causing the issue. I'm looking for recommendations for a reliable USB A to USB C cable that won't break the bank. If it turns out the problem is with the connection instead, what steps should I take to troubleshoot that?

You can also try gently pinching the metal part of the USB A connector to help it fit tighter in the port. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause disconnections.
You might want to start by trying a different USB port on your PC, just to rule that out. A USB 3.2 Gen 2 cable is your best bet for speed; look for one with a blue tongue on the USB A end. If you've already done all that and the SSD still disconnects, the problem could be the port on the SSD itself.
If you haven't already, consider getting a USB cable specifically recommended for SSDs. I found a great one on Cable Matters that supports high-speed data transfer.
