Why is my RTX 5080 having HDMI 2.1 flickering issues?

Hey everyone, I recently got my hands on an RTX 5080 and I've been enjoying gaming on my AW3225QF monitor via DisplayPort (4K 240Hz, HDR, and VRR). However, I decided to test it out on my LG C4 TV, so I bought a 3m HDMI 2.1 cable that was certified for high-quality use. But I'm facing a major issue: the HDMI connection is flickering with strange colors and even going completely black for several seconds, making it practically unusable. The only resolution that seems to work without issues is 4K at 60Hz.

To troubleshoot, I've set the GPU to PCIE 4.0, tried using the internal GPU of my 9800x3d which handled 4K 120Hz just fine, and updated all drivers, BIOS, etc. I'm starting to wonder if I should RMA my card, since DisplayPort works perfectly and I haven't had luck with HDMI. Has anyone experienced something similar? Also, I found that using the HDMI on my monitor gives the same problem — I can't even get past 4K 60Hz with the included HDMI cable. Any advice?

It might be worth trying a different HDMI cable again. Sometimes even new cables can be faulty. Make sure that the cable is fully inserted into both the GPU and the TV. You might want to check the ports too, just to be safe. Don't rush to RMA just yet; let’s try the simple checks first!

I tried the cable that came with my monitor, and it had the same issues. It definitely works fine otherwise.

Yeah, for sure! Checking connections is always a good starting point.

You might want to try disabling G-Sync, not just from the NVIDIA settings but also on your monitor. Sometimes that can cause HDMI issues too. Check out this link for more info: [link]. I had some luck with it!

I tried that, but it didn’t help — still getting black screens every few seconds.

Have you considered using DDU to completely uninstall and then reinstall your GPU drivers? That might clear up the issues you're facing. Check this video for a guide: [link].

Yeah, I’ve already tried both the studio and game-ready drivers. No luck there.

Honestly, I don't think it's just the cables causing the issue since both integrated graphics and my laptop can handle 4K 120Hz. It seems like something's up specifically with the GPU's HDMI functionality, which is odd. Definitely concerns about the RTX 5080 there!
