I'm finally moving away from Xfinity's terrible WiFi. I've been stuck with around 90Mbps download and 4Mbps upload speeds, which is nowhere near what I should be getting. I'm switching to a fiber 5-gig plan soon and want to make sure I set everything up correctly. I know a good Ethernet cable is important for gaming, but I'm new to networking and don't want to waste money on the wrong cable. What type or brand of cable should I look for? Also, if there's any other hardware I should check before making the switch, I'm open to suggestions!

Make sure your computer and router support the speeds you want. If they only have 1Gbps ports, that's your limit even with a fancy cable. CAT6 cables are generally fine for up to 10Gbps speeds unless you’re running long distances. Just don’t waste your money on overpriced CAT7 or CAT8 cables, as they aren't really legitimate.

Yeah, most home setups typically don’t hit more than 1Gbps, so CAT6 is usually sufficient.
