Are the 7 9800x3d and 7 7800x3d worth it for gaming with a 9070xt at 1440p/4K?

I'm wondering about upgrading my CPU from a 9 9900x to either the 7 9800x3d or the 7 7800x3d for gaming with a 9070xt. I'm primarily gaming at 4K or upscaled 1440p. Will I really notice the difference in performance? Also, how much extra would I need to spend to make the jump worth it? Is a difference of $50, $100, or $200 worth considering?

Honestly, given your current setup, I don’t think you'll notice a significant difference in gaming performance. If the 7800x3d is under $400, I'd grab it over the 9800x3d that's around $480. For just $30 difference, it’s not a huge leap up in real-world scenarios.

Yeah, exactly! It really does come down to what kind of games you're into and how you set them up.

I agree with others here; your 9900x is already a strong performer, especially for gaming at higher resolutions. If you're looking to upgrade your whole build, then go for the new CPUs. But for just a GPU swap, sticking with the 9900x seems smarter. The V-Cache is nice, but the price tag for minimal gains isn't really worth it for most games at 4K.

Exactly! I've seen minimal improvements in 4K, so unless you're aiming for a super specific, demanding title, your current CPU is more than enough.

Definitely stick with your 9900x for now. The X3D series is great, but your existing CPU can hold its own pretty well!

At 4K resolution, you won't see much difference with either CPU compared to your current one. In fact, even with a 5070Ti and a 5700X3D, I find I'm more GPU-bound in most games. Changing CPUs might not yield any real gains.

It kind of depends on the games you play! Some titles might benefit more from the upgrade than others. For instance, if you’re hitting up 4K Indiana Jones versus something like a vast 4K game like Stellaris, the difference might be noticeable due to their CPU demands.
