What’s causing my laptop to act like it only has 4GB of RAM instead of 8GB?

I recently bought this laptop, and while it's not the most powerful machine out there, I thought the specs were decent for the price. However, it's performing much worse than I expected, especially when it comes to memory usage. My task manager shows that I'm using about 4GB of RAM even though the total available is 8GB, and it claims I'm at 86% utilization. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

It seems like you've stumbled onto a common issue. A few people have reported similar problems recently, and it might just be a bug in the Task Manager. The 86% utilization does look accurate, so you might want to check if you can add more RAM if you often have many apps or browser tabs open. 8GB is pretty low by today’s standards!

Memory usage can be tricky. It's best to look at the performance tab in the Task Manager for accurate figures. If it shows 4/8GB, then you're only utilizing 4GB. The processes tab can give you different readings, making it seem off sometimes.

I checked my performance tab, and it said 6.8GB is being used, but the total processes used doesn't seem to add up. It’s strange how inconsistent it can be.
