Hey everyone! I'm on the hunt for NVMe drives that stay cool during operation. I'm not concerned about speed at all since the device I plan to use has a transfer speed cap. I'm really prioritizing low temperatures and low power consumption instead. Are there any specific models you know of that fit these criteria? Thanks a bunch!

If speed isn't an issue for you, it’s a bit puzzling why DRAM is needed. Most SSDs run cool unless you're pushing them to their limits. If you're leaning towards DRAM models for frequent writes, you might end up with hotter drives. A good option could be the TeamGroup MP44Q, which stays below 70°C under stress. Or, you might also like the Kioxia Exceria, especially the old PCIe 3.0 model, which doesn’t exceed 50°C.
For Gen3 drives, I suggest looking into options like the Kioxia Exceria G2 or the Transcend MTE220S. If you want something for Gen4, the Crucial T500 or the Micron 3500, which use the efficient E25 controller, would be ideal. Just be aware that older controllers like the SM2267, found in the Transcend MTE240S, might sacrifice speed for cooler operation.
Most NVMe M.2 drives tend to run hot during heavy use because they’re built for high speed in a compact space. If speed isn’t a concern, I’d recommend looking into SATA or mSATA drives instead; they tend to operate much cooler and are more power-efficient. However, if you still want an NVMe drive that runs cooler, you might want to check out U.2 NVMe drives, as they can offer a better balance of temperature and performance.
