I just got my hands on an older modem/router combo (Arris Surfboard SBG 6700-AC) that I activated with my Comcast service. The internet works fine through an Ethernet connection, but I'm struggling to set up the wireless access. Even though the lights for the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks are lit up, I can't find my device in the Wi-Fi search on my computer or phone. I've tried resetting the router, but when I enter 192.168.0.1 in my browser, I get an 'unsupported protocol' error. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong or how to fix this?

Make sure you've done a complete factory reset if you're still having trouble. After a reset, try connecting to the Wi-Fi again and accessing the settings. If you're still not seeing the admin page, the router might have a deeper issue, or it could need a firmware update.
I actually managed to fix it! The factory reset brought back my router's visibility in the Wi-Fi networks, but I still couldn't access the admin page. After a bit of fiddling, I found that the proper address to use was indeed 192.168.1.1 and that worked for me!
It sounds like you might be using the wrong IP address for the router. Try accessing it with 192.168.1.1 instead. Sometimes older models use different default IPs. Once you get that open, you should be able to reach the admin settings without any problems.
