Should I Get Another M.2 NVMe SSD or Go for a Cheaper HDD?

Hey everyone! I currently have a 2TB WD SN850X M.2 NVMe SSD, which is packed with games. Given the size of modern games like Helldivers 2 and Baldur's Gate 3, I'm considering expanding my storage. Should I buy another SN850X, this time with 4TB, or would a slower and cheaper HDD do the trick? I'm unsure if adding another NVMe SSD is beneficial since my operating system is already installed on one. What do you think?

I've got two 2TB SSDs, and for me, it’s the best set-up. It’s fast, cost-effective, and easy to manage. I know some hardcore gamers need that extra speed of an NVMe, but they usually only have one game on the drive at a time. It's all about what you need it for!

That’s interesting! I thought about going the SSD route entirely, but I see the appeal of just keeping it simple.

If you're planning to game from this new drive, definitely go for an SSD. At this point, even a SATA SSD should be the minimum. HDDs are fine for archiving games you don’t play often, but if the game is from the last decade, an SSD is a must.

Honestly, these days, SSDs are pretty much a must for gaming. Most new games list SSD storage as a minimum requirement, while HDDs are more suited for backup. If you often play new games, I recommend getting a new NVMe or even a SATA SSD, since both options perform well for gaming. I've got one of each and I can't tell a huge difference in speed for games!

Good to know! I hadn't noticed the shift in requirements for games. Thanks for the tip!

If you're just looking for extra storage and don't plan to play games directly from it, you could save some cash by going for an HDD. But, if you're going to have a lot of games on it that you want to play regularly, a larger M.2 NVMe SSD would definitely be a better choice. It's nice to have everything on a fast drive, and in your case, a 4TB would be perfect!

Totally agree! I learned the hard way about long loading times with games on an HDD. It's worth investing in good storage.
