Can my mouse and headphones really transfer malware?

I've been wondering about the security of my peripherals. Someone mentioned that if I plug my mouse and headphones into an infected device, there's a chance they could get infected as well. My mouse is a basic one from Amazon, nothing fancy or programmable, but I'm curious about the risk. Can these devices actually transfer malware?

Technically, yes, your devices could be infected, but it’s pretty unlikely. Most common peripherals wouldn’t transmit malware in a realistic scenario.

The headphone jack is safe since it doesn't transfer data, but the USB connection could be a risk. To infect your device, malware would need to make changes to the firmware of the mouse or headphones, which is complex and not a common method of spreading malware. So, while possible, it's not very practical.

Right! It’s just not worth the effort for most attackers. Plus, most cheap devices are pretty harmless when used normally.

Yes, while it could happen, in practice it's not common and requires specific conditions. Just stick to reputable brands, and you should be fine!

Exactly! It’s mostly a precaution. Just stick with known brands to play it safe!

It's definitely possible, but honestly, it’s not something you should worry about too much unless you’re buying super cheap, unbranded devices. Generally, a network virus is a better way to infect devices.
