Can I connect my laptop via USB to my TV’s HDMI?

I have a Lenovo T440s laptop running Windows 10 and I want to connect it to my TV that has Chromecast. I'm thinking about using a cable that connects from a USB port on my laptop to an HDMI port on my TV to stream videos. While I know Chromecast can do this, the audio is often out of sync and the video quality is quite low (around 240p). My laptop can handle 720p or 1080p, so I want a reliable connection. Is there a USB to HDMI cable available that can achieve this? Thanks for any help!

They do make USB display adapters with VGA and HDMI outputs, but these require specific drivers and can struggle with high-definition content. For basic desktop and video use, they can be fine, though lower-res. If you're looking at better options, there are USB 3.0 versions too, but those are on the pricier side.

Your laptop actually has a VGA output, which is analog. To connect it to HDMI, you'd need an active adapter that typically requires additional power from a USB port—don’t just get a simple VGA to HDMI cable; they won’t work. There are also USB-A to HDMI dongles available, but those are like mini graphic cards, independent of your main graphics card.

Your Lenovo T440s has a mini DisplayPort, so you can skip the whole USB to HDMI idea. Just use a passive miniDP to HDMI cable or adapter, and it should work perfectly without needing to convert anything.
