Hey everyone! I'm currently in the process of upgrading and reimaging several machines to Windows 11, and I need some input. A lot of these machines log in using a generic Windows account, but the method I've been using—a Sysinternals application—has been pretty unreliable. I'm wondering if anyone has found other effective ways to set up autologin for these accounts? Thanks a ton for any suggestions!

During the initial setup, you shouldn’t need a login. I usually create a local account without a password, which lets me do most of the general setup. The system automatically logs into this account afterwards, even when adding users. Just remember to delete or set a password for that local account!
I set up my cat with login credentials to handle that task, and he usually just loafs around all day!
If I could find a role for my cat, I'd totally hire him too!
Try running "control userpasswords2". If the "User must enter a user name and password" box isn’t visible to uncheck, go to settings > accounts > sign-in options, and uncheck the setting for "only allow Windows Hello Sign-in". Just a heads up though, I'd avoid compromising security for ease.
You can tweak the registry for autologon by setting up the appropriate keys. There's some good info on Microsoft's site if you want to check it out. This method works even outside of server environments!
That's great to know! I’ve been using the Sysinternals app, but it's been flaky lately. It also complicates things since our staff doesn't know the passwords on purpose.

I meant after reimaging, not during setup. Our imaging process handles the setup, but we still use those generic accounts for autologin.
