Help! My PC Won’t Boot After Installing a Cooler

Hey everyone, I'm currently building my PC and what was supposed to be an awesome birthday gift has turned into a bit of a nightmare. I've got a 9800x3d processor, a 9070xt nitro+ graphics card, 64GB of DDR5 Trident Z5 RAM, an ASUS ROG Strix B850i motherboard, a Corsair SF850 power supply, and a WD Black SN850X 2TB SSD.

I managed to boot the PC after doing a BIOS flashback, but the radiator for my cooler didn't fit so I returned it and got an air cooler instead. After moving around the motherboard to switch the GPU from the top to the bottom slot, I installed the air cooler a couple of days later. That's when I started getting a white and yellow light on the motherboard, and the system wouldn't boot.

I removed the cooler, reset the CMOS, tried booting with just one stick of RAM, and removed the GPU. Finally, it posted with only one stick of RAM and no GPU, but then froze in the BIOS after about a minute. I repeated the process of reseating components, clear CMOS, and BIOS flashback, and it booted again without crashing. But then, upon restarting to check everything, it wouldn't boot and now I'm getting an orange light, which isn't even listed in the manual. After buying a new set of RAM sticks (same model), I still got the orange LED. I've returned the motherboard, but I'm really stressed now—could the issue be with the CPU or PSU? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry to hear about the stressful situation! Just so you know, the orange light usually indicates a RAM issue per some manuals. It might be worth testing both RAM sticks individually in all slots if you haven’t already done that. Also, since you mentioned reseating components, double-check the CPU latch to ensure it’s secured properly and inspect for any bent pins after messing around with the cooler.

I feel your pain! Just to clarify, earlier you had a bright yellow and now an orange light? The yellow could mean a DRAM error, but if you've already swapped sticks and reseated the CPU, it sounds like you’ve done a lot. Have you tried booting the system without the cooler again? You may want to give it one more shot just to see if anything changes.
