I'm looking to upgrade to an RTX 5070 for better performance, but I just realized my Dell OptiPlex 7080 motherboard only takes a 6 pin power connector instead of the standard 24 pin. It seems like all the available adapters might not be safe due to fire hazards and potential damage. Does anyone know if there's a way to work around this issue, or am I stuck needing to buy a whole new PC?

I ran into the same problem with my Dell, which had a 10 pin ATX connection. I ended up searching for compatible power supplies that could work with it on eBay, as not all power supplies even with the same number of pins have the same pinout. I found a 500W supply, but it won't cut it for a 5070—maybe a 5060 would be a safer bet!
You might be able to keep your old PSU and add another one just for the 5070. It’s a bit unconventional, but you can wire them together to power on simultaneously. Just keep in mind it’s not the cleanest solution, but it works!
Upgrades can get complicated with Dell systems! I doubt a 5070 will even fit in your case, but if you look for the two-fan version, I heard it fits just fine. Just double-check your dimensions before buying!
