I recently bought a PNY RTX 5080 from Best Buy to secure it at MSRP, but I'm not going to be able to put my PC together until January 2026, which is about five months away. Initially, I wanted to grab the rest of my parts gradually from sales like Prime Day and Black Friday. You can check my current build plan here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/kbtTyW (I'm upgrading from a 1660ti and a 2600x).
I'm feeling conflicted because:
- If I keep the 5080, I'll lose the return window before I even get to test it, and what if it's DOA?
- If I cancel, I have no idea what the price for the 5080 will look like in January. It could hold steady, drop, or even rise.
- Plus, there's talk of supers launching around then. If the price is right, I might go for one of those, but I'd also like the option of falling back to the 5080 if the supers are too pricey. This build needs to last me about 5-6 years, so an upgrade in VRAM would be beneficial.
So I'm torn. Should I stick with the 5080 for the security of the MSRP, or cancel and look to buy it again in January? Maybe even consider a 5080 Super if it's a good deal?

That’s tough! But rumor has it that production of 5080s might stop when the supers start. So if you decide to wait, you might only be able to grab a 5070 ti super or a 5080 super, which could end up being pricier than what you have right now. It’s really a total gamble in this market!
If you're not able to test the 5080 now, definitely cancel it. And yeah, from what I've heard, they're not making more 5080s once the supers release, which could happen by late 2025. Plus, if you don’t really have a working PC right now, it wouldn't make much sense to hold onto the card until you can actually use it.
Honestly, I think it’s safer to cancel it. You could always snag a 5070 ti or a decent setup for around $995 and still have room for future upgrades without stress. Don't rush getting parts one by one; it's better to save and buy everything once you're ready.
I'd say go ahead and cancel that order. The 5080 price is locked at MSRP now, but with the supers coming soon, you might find even better deals. Just save that money until you're ready to build! You could end up snagging a better price in a few months, especially since the 5080s might drop below MSRP once those supers come out around November or December.
I’d personally cancel. Save up for the whole build and get everything at once if you can. It'll be much easier to manage and you'll likely find better prices down the line, especially with new releases on the horizon.

Exactly! If you can't test it, that's just too risky. A friend with a PC might help you test it out if you really want to go for it, but waiting might just lead to missing out on better options.
