Hey everyone! I'm having some issues with my RTX 3070 Ti 8GB. Lately, when I play more resource-intensive games or even just watch YouTube, the fans on my GPU go into overdrive and sometimes the screens black out. I'm starting to think it might be a power supply issue.
I'm currently using a Corsair RM550x 80 PLUS power supply. Is this sufficient for my setup?
Also, the 3070 Ti has two 8-pin inputs, but my cables merge into a single 8-pin that plugs into the 6+2 slot on the RM550x. Is that the right way to connect it? I'm not very experienced with building PCs, and I bought this one secondhand like this, so any guidance would be appreciated! My setup includes an i7 6700K processor at 4.1 GHz, 32 GB of RAM, and NXT watercooling.

It’s likely your power supply is the culprit here. The RTX 3070 Ti can draw up to around 300 watts under heavy load, so the RM550x might be at its limit, especially if you're pushing your GPU hard while multitasking. Just keep an eye on the temperatures—if things are overheating, that could be causing your issues too.
Honestly, the RM550x should be okay, but it’s definitely on the lower end for that GPU. While it might technically work, it could struggle during intense tasks. If you're experiencing blackouts, make sure your whole system isn’t drawing too much power from the outlet—things like monitors and other electronics can add up!
As for your cable setup, having a 2x8 pin cable leading into a single 8-pin connector is generally fine, but using two separate cables might provide better stability if you can manage it.
Yeah, your power supply is definitely borderline for that GPU. A 550-watt PSU can handle it but isn't a sure bet, especially under load. Just ensure that high-power devices aren't sharing the same electrical outlet.
Regarding the cable situation, while one 2x8 pin to 1x6+2 pin works, having multiple cables might help distribute the load better. Just make sure all connections are secure to prevent any interruptions.
Great tips! I’ll check my connections and see if separating the cables helps. Thanks for the advice!
Thanks for clearing that up! I don't have any major appliances on the same circuit, just a couple of monitors and a laptop. I’ll keep an eye on it and might look into upgrading the power supply if issues persist.
