How Frequently Do Recruiters Actually Review Portfolios?

I've put a lot of effort into perfecting my portfolio, partly because I enjoy it. But I'm curious about how often recruiters actually check out portfolios before interviews. I've seen many job applications include a field for linking a 'Portfolio Website', which makes me think it's somewhat common for recruiters to take a look. Has anyone had experiences or insights, perhaps from a recruiter, about how often portfolios are reviewed?

Actually, it can really depend on the job and the recruiter. For some roles, especially if it's more senior, hiring managers definitely look at portfolios as part of their decision-making process. It's also a great conversation starter during interviews!

Most recruiters admit they often skip viewing portfolios when they have too many applications to sift through. However, when they do look, a well-crafted portfolio can really set you apart from the competition.

Honestly, I think it varies. If you're just starting out, your portfolio is likely to catch more attention, but for seasoned professionals, experience usually speaks for itself. Also, if a recruiter doesn't think they can judge the quality of your work, they might just skip it.

In my experience, portfolios are usually glanced at during the later stages of hiring. If I’m interviewing someone, I always check their portfolio beforehand to have something to discuss during our chat. A personal touch in your website can be a big plus!

From what I've heard, many recruiters don’t dive deep into portfolios, especially when they're swamped with applications. Sometimes, they might just copy and paste the links without really looking. But hiring managers tend to check them out more closely, especially if you're moving further along in the interview process.
