I'm in the process of building a new PC and I'm looking for some advice on my parts list. I plan to transfer my NVMe drives from my current setup to the new build. My main concern is whether I need to wipe the NVMe drives completely before installing them, or if I can handle that during the Windows installation. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Hey, just a heads-up, it seems you might be overpaying for some parts! I could save you around $350 with my recommended build that maintains performance. Check it out [here](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Lq9sGJ). Just compare it and see if you’d be interested in switching a few things around.
You don’t really need to wipe those NVMe drives before installing them in your new build. A fresh OS installation is usually recommended when moving to a new PC. You can wipe the drive during the OS setup by deleting the old partitions. This won’t erase the data completely but it will wipe the data map which is typically fine for transitioning to a new system.
Thanks for the tips! I have a couple of follow-up questions. If I decide on air cooling, would the G.Skill Flare X5 64 GB RAM fit better with clearance issues? I also already got the motherboard from a friend that's similar to what you suggested, and I have my two existing NVMe drives. Curious why I’d need to add a new 4TB NVMe? Also, if I go with that, what’s the best fan setup with the included Fractal fans and Arctic fans?
