My Old Laptop Keeps Freezing – What Can I Do?

I've been using my 12-year-old laptop without many issues until recently. Lately, every time I start using it, I get the 'pinwheel of death,' and it freezes for a while. Today, I even found it restarting by itself after I walked away for a moment. This is the first time I've really noticed it struggling. I'm looking for any advice on how to fix it without having to buy a new laptop. I don't even know what operating system I'm running because it keeps restarting!

I just made a reservation at the Apple Genius Bar for tomorrow. I'm hoping they can help me figure this out for good.

First off, **backup your data!** Create a new user account to see if the problem persists. If it's still happening, it could mean your operating system is having issues, and you might need to reinstall it. If that doesn't solve it, then it could be a hardware issue. Think about replacing the SSD or cleaning out your fans and reapplying thermal paste; that might help if the laptop is overheating.

Sounds like it might be an issue with the SSD or maybe even the hard drive. It could also be a problem with the hard drive cable. If you can, try checking those components for any signs of failure.
