I'm considering upgrading my setup from an R7 9700X on a B650M motherboard to an R7 9800X3D on an X870E. I mainly play Rust, which is pretty heavy on the CPU, and I've heard that this upgrade could give me around 50% more FPS based on some YouTube videos I've watched. Here are my current specs: R7 9700X, an RTX 4080 Super, 32GB of 6000MHz CL36 RAM, and a Cooler Master triple AIO cooler, powered by a 750W Gold Cooler Master PSU. If you need more details about my build, just let me know!

Honestly, it doesn’t seem worth the upgrade right now. I've seen claims of up to 50% better performance, but it seems more realistic to expect around 5-10% improvement at most. Are there specific games where you saw those numbers?
From what I'm seeing, you don’t really need an X870E motherboard. The B650 should be enough for gaming with just a BIOS update. Plus, I doubt the performance boost would be anywhere close to 50%. It might be better to hold off and see what future generations offer before spending that much now.
I feel you! I built my PC on a budget and skipped the 7800X3D. Planning to grab the next-gen when it comes out too.
Your current motherboard is fine for now; no need to switch it out. Just make sure to do a BIOS update and you should be good to go! The 9800X3D is definitely better for CPU-heavy games like Rust if you're looking for that boost. I've got a 9700X too, and I'm waiting for the next-gen AM5 X3D chips to go on sale before upgrading. But if you want to upgrade now, go for it and try to sell your 9700X.
For Rust, there was a performance chart from the dev team showing average frames, but 1% lows might still be an issue.
