Hey everyone! I'm having a bit of a snag here. I'm trying to install a new operating system on my Pixel 9a smartphone using Fastboot. However, when I connect my phone to my PC (which runs Linux Mint 21.3), the terminal keeps showing 'Wait for Device,' meaning it's not recognizing the connection for flashing. The phone is connected via its original cable, and I can see it in Explorer, but it won't establish a Fastboot connection.
I checked the Fastboot version on my PC, and it's at 28.0.2-debian, but I need to upgrade to at least version 35 as specified by the smartphone's OS developer. I tried updating it through the command line and a GUI version, but both methods tell me 'Fastboot is up to date.' How do I get this updated? Thanks in advance for any help!

Just a heads up, smartphones use a different architecture than typical PCs, which can make things tricky. Linux Mint isn't usually compatible with mobile hardware, so I'm curious why you're trying to install it on your phone. Can you fill us in on what led you to this point?
Yeah, OP is just trying to use their PC with Mint to flash a new ROM onto their phone, not installing Mint on the phone itself!
You should download the latest platform-tools directly from Google's site. Then, open a terminal in that folder and run the Fastboot commands from there. It should help establish the connection properly!
Thanks a lot! I'll try that and see if it resolves the issue.
I'm having the same issue. After trying that, I still get version 28 when I run 'fastboot --version.' So frustrating!

I probably wasn't clear. I'm trying to flash GrapheneOS on my Pixel 9a, but I'm stuck because of the Fastboot issue. I'm able to see the phone in Explorer, but it won’t connect for the flashing process. The Fastboot version on my PC won't update, and I end up with an error saying it's current.
