Hey everyone! I'm new here and I'm putting together a PC build for my son. After chatting with him, I figured out he plays a lot of CPU-intensive games and his favorite is Factorio. He casually plays some FPS games, but graphics aren't a huge priority for him. I'm hoping to keep the cost of the build between $1000 and $1100 while still getting him a solid PC that will last and can be upgraded down the line. I've created a list on PCPartPicker, and I'm excited but a bit overwhelmed. Any suggestions on how to make this more budget-friendly while keeping it great for him? Thanks so much!

I really like where you're heading with this build! If we're targeting that $1100 mark, I'd suggest considering a lower-tier CPU. For instance, the Ryzen 5 7600 is currently on sale and comes with a decent stock cooler, saving you a bit there. I tweaked my list to come in at around $1129 with solid components. Since upgrading is important, I picked a motherboard with plenty of USB ports and a large VRM, which will set you up nicely for future upgrades. Also, I opted for 6000MHz CL30 RAM—it's better value and most AM5 CPUs handle this speed pretty well. The case is up to your son's taste, so if he likes it, it’s a solid choice. Lastly, you might want to consider a 750W PSU for a little more upgrade room in the future. Feel free to customize this to fit your style and budget! Hope this helps!
Do you think it would make sense to prioritize a higher-spec CPU and lower GPU since he enjoys CPU-heavy games? Or is that too much of a trade-off?
For the cooler, I recommend the Thermalright Phantom Spirit. It's a much better option for a similar price compared to the one in your list.
Just a thought, are you near a Micro Center store? They often have good deals on PC parts, if you are!

Gosh I really appreciate this! Your explanations really helped me understand the changes. Thank you!
