Why am I getting emails from Microsoft about my firewall when it’s actually on?

I received an email from [email protected] saying that my PC's security software or firewall is turned off or deactivated. It advises me to contact my system administrator and states not to reply to the email. We only use Windows Defender, so there's no other security software involved. The email includes details like our system admin's correct email address and the PC's information such as the OS, serial number, device name, and model number, which all seem accurate. I'm wondering why I received this email and if it's legitimate or a phishing attempt.

Do you guys use Intune? If so, this could be about device compliance. A simple reboot of your laptop might get the firewall back into compliance. You can also check your device status in the Company Portal app if you have that.

Yeah, we do use Intune. That makes sense and I don’t suspect it’s a scam either.

Sounds like the email could be a legitimate security alert, especially since it mentions contacting your sys admin. It's always a good idea to follow their advice and check with IT just to be safe.
