I'm currently interning at a company that provides services to a banks, where I joined as a Java developer intern. My stipend is 5,000 INR per month, which isn't great, especially since they've promised that I would be onboarded after 2 or 3 months based on my performance. I've done well in assessments and interviews, and I've contributed to several projects, yet they haven't onboarded me yet. There are 4-5 interns including me, but only three others who have been onboarded, and they seem to just slack off. Meanwhile, they get proper salaries while I'm stuck with this low stipend. I've also enrolled in a non-regular college for my PG, even though I scored 95% on my MCA entrance and 87% on my MBA entrance. During my internship, I'm trying to learn DSA and system design in my spare time, but I'm feeling down and somewhat depressed about the whole situation. What should I do?

Honestly, 5,000 INR per month isn’t a lot, especially when you compare it to basic worker wages in India. Your skills and contributions are valuable, and if you're not being recognized for them, it's understandable to feel frustrated. Consider weighing your options – if other jobs pay better and offer a healthier work environment, it might be worth moving on. Just keep your options open!
5k a month might seem low, but some people actually consider it decent depending on experience and location, so it can be confusing. However, don’t compare just on the stipend—think about growth, learning, and future job offers. If it’s not leading anywhere, it’s okay to explore other opportunities too!
I mean, it’s low for an intern role, right? I know plenty of first jobs that pay much better. I just wish I could see a clear path forward!
It sounds like you're putting in a lot of effort, but remember that internships are also about assessing you as a potential future employee. If you’re not enjoying the work environment, that’s a key signal. Just keep in mind that the main goal is to gain experience and possibly secure a job. If it doesn’t feel worth it, maybe consider looking for opportunities elsewhere. Don’t forget to look out for your well-being too!
Thanks for the advice! It’s tough because I want to make the most of it, but the current stipend really hurts, and job applications aren't coming through.
I get what you mean. I thought internships were supposed to help financially too, but this just seems off. I guess I need to keep applying and see what else is out there.
