Do I Need a Special Licence for Copilot Features?

I'm curious about how Copilot works with my current business basic license. I can use Copilot and enjoy some enterprise data protection benefits, but I wonder if I really need the $30/month Copilot license to get features like sorting and responding to emails effectively. It seems contradictory since other services like Intune require supplementary licenses rather than just a single purchase. Can anyone clarify this for me?

It’s a bit of a mess, honestly. You get some access to Copilot for web searches without needing to pay, but if you want to utilize Copilot with your tenant data—like organizing emails—you’ll need the full Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Microsoft definitely knows how to keep things confusing!

Yeah, I totally get that confusion! I reached out to Microsoft about this, and they weren't really clear either. You can still use some features for free, but the full integration with Office apps does require that license.
