Hey everyone! I'm new to Reddit and still figuring out robotics, but I've got this project idea for an auto-aiming trash can that I really like. I'm looking for some advice on how to tackle it, especially when it comes to predicting where thrown objects will land. I want to avoid using depth cameras or Kinnects since they're a bit pricey and tricky to deal with. Any ideas?

One approach I can think of is to check out the work by Stuff Made Here on YouTube. He created a basketball hoop that adjusts to catch balls, which could give you some ideas for your trash can project, although your budget might restrict you from replicating everything exactly. It's worth a watch!
