Issues with Performance After Upgrading CPU, GPU, and RAM

Hey everyone! I've run into an issue after upgrading my PC components and I'm hoping to get some advice. I recently swapped out my old setup, which was an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 along with an AMD Sapphire Radeon RX 5600 XT and 16GB of DDR4 RAM, for a new Ryzen 5 5600, a Radeon RX 9060XT with 16GB of RAM, and 32GB of Lexar THOR DDR4 RAM. I thought the upgrade would enhance my performance, but I'm actually facing some problems now.

With my old setup, I was running games at around 100-110 FPS at 1440p on a 32'' 165Hz display. Now, after the upgrade, I'm only seeing about 120-130 FPS, but I experience noticeable frame drops down to 70-80 FPS, which I never had before. This is particularly evident while playing DayZ.

Additionally, I'm wondering if I should consider upgrading my motherboard to a B550 with PCIe 4.0x16 support since my current MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX only has PCIe 3.0x16 slots. What should I do? Sometimes it seems like upgrading can lead to more trouble than it's worth!

Have you checked if XMP is enabled for your RAM? Sometimes not enabling that can lead to subpar performance. It's worth a look!

Yes, I did enable XMP.

Make sure you’ve done a few things after your upgrade.

A) Have you done a clean Windows install?
B) Is your BIOS updated to the latest version?
C) Did you enable XMP?
D) Also, check if you've enabled the Resizable BAR in both BIOS and your graphics driver settings.

No need to rush and get a new motherboard for PCIe 4.0 unless you’re really set on it. Make sure your cooling is good too–the H510 is known to trap heat, so keep an eye on those temps!

Your CPU seems fine, but how’s your GPU temp looking during those heavy loads?

I haven’t done a clean install yet but it's my top priority! I expect a new SSD tomorrow for backups. My BIOS is up-to-date. I enabled XMP. I haven’t checked out the Resizable BAR yet—what even is that? About my case, I added more fans, so it'll have better airflow now, and my CPU temps are decent (40 idle, maxing around 65-68). GPU temps are also under control, around 60C with 40% usage while gaming.

It sounds like you might be hitting a CPU bottleneck. The Ryzen 5 5600 isn’t the fastest anymore, and DayZ can be pretty demanding on the CPU. To confirm this, try playing a less CPU-intensive game and see if your GPU usage goes up. If it does, then that's likely your issue. Some folks have mentioned using their old GPU in conjunction with a new one for frame generation too, which can help a lot!

What’s this 'lossless scaling framegen' you mentioned? And how would I set up my old GPU for that?
