I'm trying to decide between getting the AMD 7800X3D or the 9800X3D for my system, which has an RTX 5070 Ti. The 7800X3D is priced around $359 while the 9800X3D is a bit higher at $450 to $470. I get that on paper the 9800X3D is better, but I'm curious about how much performance gain I can actually expect, especially in CPU-bound games. Is the performance jump significant enough to justify the extra cost? I typically game at 60fps and 1080p. Just looking for straightforward advice without a lot of technical jargon, as I'm not super tech-savvy. And yes, I know my RTX 5070 Ti might not be the best fit, but that's all I can afford right now.

I faced the same choice but ended up going for the 9800X3D. I think it's worth spending a bit more for better performance in the long run. It really does make a difference for the investment.
From what I’ve seen, the 9800X3D is about 10-15% faster, but that's primarily based on tests at 1080p with a high-end GPU. If you're on 1440p with the 5070 Ti, the performance gap will be pretty minimal. At 4K? You’ll likely not notice much of a difference for most games. DLSS can help squeeze out better performance at higher resolutions, though!
I have a native 4K monitor, so will switching to 1440p help with performance since it's not native? Or do I need to stick to native resolutions to really benefit?
I totally get that. I’m kind of impatient too, and with my budget, the 7800X3D feels like a stretch already, especially considering other components I need.
